THE VIAL OF LIFE FOR DOGS?

Recently, the police had to break into a friend's house because we hadn't seen her for days. They found her laying on the floor, comatose. This is when I learned about THE VIAL OF LIFE, a fantastic, life saving practice that Emergency Medical Teams use through out the United States. It is an emergency identification system that provides information for any rescue team if their services are ever needed for individuals who live alone, or might be alone, or might be alone for certain periods of time or might not be able to communicate when the need arises. It is also being used as a safety precaution by many families. I have given it to all my family members and close friends and use it myself.

A form which lists the names of all the residents in a house and their medical history, medications, allergies, blood type, family doctor, emergency contact, etc. is placed in a vial (small plastic pill bottle large enough to hold a folded piece of paper). EMTs know to look for this vial in the door rack of the refrigerator. Ingenious! EMTs have immediate access to life saving information and can go to work immediately without ransacking the house in the hopes of quickly finding vital and current information. I highly recommend The Vial of Life to everyone. Contact your local fire department or rescue squad for the forms and vials.

What if?

We all worry about what would happen to our dogs if we were in an auto accident or otherwise incapacitated. What if the dog world created a similar system whereby they stored vital information on all their dogs in a vial in the refrigerator? Information such as what dogs were owned, where they were, what their call names were, how to identify them, who should be called to take care of them, who your vet is, medical problems or special care can be transferred efficiently and quickly. We all have this information some where, or have told someone, but would your local EMT or animal shelter volunteer know where to find that information or what to do with your dogs if you were suddenly gone?
